TIME: THE KALIEF BROWDER STORY
Mark Konkol served as Senior Producer and lead writer of the Peabody Award-winning docu-series honored for " illuminating the greatest flaws of our criminal justice system through the tragic events and death of a young African-American who spent three years on Rikers Island without being convicted of a crime." Konkol wrote the series bible and lead an investigation that further exposed New York City's broken criminal justice system through the experience of Kalief Browder, who was 16-years old when he was arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack and spent three years on Rikers Island, including two years in solitary confinement, before being released after all charges were dropped. The series, produced by Jay-Z and The Cinemart, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, aired on Spike and is now streaming on Netflix. LINK TO TRAILER
